  Thallus dispersed-verrucose to verruculose or continuous to nearly byssoid, yellowish white to yellowish grey or whitish grey, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible or blackish. Apothecia sessile, 0.2–0.5 (–0.8) mm diam.; disc pale to dark red-brown, epruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thick, verrucose to verruculose. Cortex hyaline, inspersed with small crystals, 15 µm thick laterally and 15–20 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large and small crystals (melacarpella-type). Parathecium hyaline, 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals soluble in KOH. Epihymenium reddish brown, c. 10–15 µm thick, K–, without crystals (glabrata-type). Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and not to slightly thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 11.5–17.0 × 6.5–9.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C+ orange, Pd+ yellowish orange; containing atranorin (major), chodatin (major), zeorin (major), demethylchodatin (submajor), chloroatranorin (minor), 3-O-methylthiophanic acid (minor) and thiophanic acid (minor).
     
  Occurs on bark in mangroves, rainforest margins and gallery forest in W.A., N.T. and Qld. A pantropical species.
